One hardened steel striker 3-1/2" inches in length (I consider this a 4 finger striker) with 1 or 2 chert flint rocks. Now comes with an extra chert flint rock packed outside of the tin. Some will get 3 flints depending on the size that will be inside of the tin.
Kit consists of: Tin box, 2 or 3 flints, C-shaped steel striker, 5 nice pieces of 9 ounce cooked char cloth, Several pcs. of birch bark, jute twine, and manila rope, directions on use and how to make great char cloth, plus a Ranger Band that will help keep the tin closed tighter which can also be used to help keep that flame going (is made from a bicycle tube), all stored in a reusable thick 4 ply 6" X 8" clear plastic bag.
To sharpen the flint one can tap the edges lightly using a small tack hammer with the flint resting on a flat hard surface. Or sharpen the flint with the steel as shown in the video here. Flint and steel sets work best with very sharp flint.
